Hazardous Storage Cabinets
The Eagle YPI-77 yellow steel safety cabinet for paint and ink stores up to 30 one-gallon cans or 252 twelve-ounce aerosol cans and has five adjustable shelves, a double-walled construction with welded 18-gauge steel internal and external walls, two manually closing doors, and a 2" vent with fire baffle and cap. The cabinet's five adjustable galvanized steel shelves are 8-1/4" deep with 4.75" centers for shelf brackets, and each shelf can hold up to 350 lb. The internal and external walls are welded 18-gauge steel, and double-walled construction provides 1.5" of air space on the sides, top, bottom, and back of the doors and walls to slow the spread of fire. Two manually closing doors with continuous piano hinges, a three-point key lock, and a button latch keep contents secure. To minimize accidental ignition of fumes, the cabinet has a 2" vent with a fire baffle and cap, and a ground connection to dissipate static electricity. The 2" raised sill helps prevent spills from leaking, and the galvanized steel legs can be adjusted to level the cabinet. The cabinet has a high-gloss, baked-on, yellow powder paint finish and comes with a trilingual warning label that reads "Flammable: Keep Fire Away" in French, English, and Spanish. A mounting bracket to brace the cabinet against a wall is included. The cabinet measures 65 x 43 x 12 inches (H x W x D). (H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the distance from front to back.) It meets Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) specifications and National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) Code 30, and has been approved by the FM Global (FM).
Safety cabinets are used to identify, organize, and segregate potentially hazardous material to reduce the spread of fire and risk of exposure to fumes. Cabinets may have standard hinged doors that close manually, or self-closing hinged or sliding doors that close automatically. Cabinets may feature segregated compartments for separating incompatible material, built-in sumps for catching leaks and spills, vents for releasing fumes, grounding connectors for dissipating static electricity, and warning labels for clear identification of contents. Safety cabinets are color coded: yellow for flammables; red for combustibles; blue for corrosives; green for pesticides; silver or light neutral for laboratory materials; and white or gray for other waste.
Eagle Manufacturing Company manufactures industrial safety products for storing and transporting hazardous materials. The company, founded in 1894 and headquartered in Wellburg, WV, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard 9001.
